Training, Best Practices and Community Building

CLIX brought together community professionals from all industries to provide training, best practices and community building, helping attendees to implement them into day-to-day operations. Thank you so much to the Community Leaders Institute for putting together a fantastic conference, It was so great to connect with community friends IRL.

–Tirza Austin, Senior Manager, Online Community, American Society of Civil Engineers

We just wanted to send a note of gratitude to thank you for hosting us all at CLIX, and for spending some of your (very in-demand!) time with us at Common Room. None of us knew what to expect, especially as this was our first in-person event after many years *and* our first in-person event as a company together – and we all unanimously said, “Wow, that was surprisingly delightful and we are all just so grateful for how smooth and helpful and connective the event was.”

You brought really wonderful people and companies together, and we look forward to continuing to work together!

–Rebecca Marshburn, Community, Common Room

Walkin’ in Memphis 🕺🏼… to the Renasant Convention Center for Community Leaders Institute CLIX event last week.

Brilliant event by RD Whitney, Heidi Williams. Amy Tkaczyk, Megan Hall , Dana Whitney and team! Well done!

Some super content and inspiring talks. Particularly enjoyed conversations with Marjorie Anderson (she/her) John Summers Simon Burton Victoria Cumberbatch and Rachael Silvano 🤩

–Claudia Gurr, CSI Plus Member Success Manager, Cruise Ship Interiors

The intersection of events and community is one of the cutting-edge topics in our industry. This week brought us to #Memphis to dive into that subject at #CLIX, hosted by the Community Leaders Institute. There is much untapped potential in this area, and we look forward to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. 💡

I just want to reach out and tell you how much I enjoyed the CLIX conference last week. The knowledge I got from the panels and the other attendees was incredibly valuable. Not just for What’s Cookin but for me as well. There were so many great people that I got to connect with and I really just had an incredible experience.

Thank you so much again for organizing a great event and for giving me the opportunity to attend.

–Bonnie Acuña, Project Manager/Web Developer, What’s Cookin’

The Community Leaders Institute Expo in Memphis was amazing!

RD Whitney Heidi Williams thanks for running such a great event!

David Spinks Richard Millington Ashley Friedlein your keynotes were insightful and enjoyable. Thanks for bringing your A-Game for all of us.

Matt Snodgrass Marie-Élaine Lemire Fidel Arciniega Carolyn Zick Megan Breeland Patrick Woods I really enjoyed the thoughtful discussions with you all. Thanks for hanging out and making a conference I was honestly a little anxious about attending by myself a lot of fun.

To all of the Discourse customers and fans I chatted with, it was a pleasure to see you — thanks for giving us the pleasure of being your platform of choice.

I can definitely say I’m already excited for the next CLIX!

–Justin DiRose, Growth & Marketing Manager, Discourse

Yet again, an in-person event reminded me of the why we gather.

When Marjorie invited me to talk about “Monetization (Community-Business Value and Strategy)” at the first version of the Community Leaders Institute Expo (#CLIX), I said “yes, or course” (because Marjorie), but I confess my mind went like: “what a logistic endeavor to fly all the way to Memphis, sleep in a hotel room, and not be able to just close my laptop after the talk to brew my own coffee.”

Today, I’m back to NY with post-conference nostalgia.

Yet again, I was inspired by the power of cozy conversations with people we share mission, challenges and goals with.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss the future of community face-to-face with many who are part of building it; one of the main insights being the need to be more collaborative and welcome competition as a way to level us all up.

As community professionals, our main threat is the lack of awareness, clarity and metrics about the impact of community to business. As the industry grows, opportunities grow for all. To establish community as a vibrant industry, we need us all. We need more people talking about it, creating solutions and software for it.

Yet again, I’m reminded that community building is like the meals in the Thanksgiving dinner: people gather to eat, but what really matters are the conversations around the table (credit: Hugh MASON)

🍜 It was a pleasure to shake hands and break bread with brilliant minds I’d met only behind the screen, and meeting new ones who already feel like friends.

🌈 Share diverse perspectives with Shana Sumers and Adrian Speyer on a panel led by Heidi Williams about the future trends of community (web3, DI&E, technology for data and platforms)

🙋🏽‍♀️ It was a pleasure to give a talk and see people face to face, gather the energy in the room and pace the conversation accordingly;
